"A delightful alternative to fairies, wizards and naughty schoolboys." Junior
About FLOTSAM AND JETSAM Tanya writes:
"Some years ago Storybox Theatre did a production of the Grimm's fairy story The Fisherman and his Wife. The two puppets looked as though they'd been made from driftwood washed up on the shore. During the performance they talked to each other in broad west country accents. They were great characters to perform.
When I had children I stopped acting and started writing. The Fisherman and his Wife moved on to shelf half way up our staircase - they were too special to simply put into storage.
Then one day I was walking with my children over the cliffs and we spotted a tiny beach. There was no way any human could ever visit it - there was no path down and it was just too small to bother visiting in a boat. I started to wonder what - or who - might live there.
Somehow that beach and the Fisherman and his Wifecame together, and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM is the result.
They are gentle, whimsical stories, and Ruth Rivers' illustrations are perfect."

FLOTSAM & JETSAM
A tiny beach... an upturned boat.... a whisper of smoke....
When Flotsam and Jetsam are washed ashore, they soon become the best of friends. Every day brings a new adventure. Join them as they battle a spiteful seagull, build a new home and rescue a very shy hermit crab.

FLOTSAM & JETSAM & THE STORMY SURPRISE
A flash of lightning.... a roar of thunder... a piercing cry...
One night a great storm brings Flotsam and Jetsam a suprise - a huge heap of bedraggled feathers that turns out to be more trouble than they thought....

FLOTSAM & JETSAM & THE GROOOF
A wet nose.... a hairy head.....a wagging tail....
One night a monstrous beast appears on Flotsam & Jetsam's little beach. They are terrified until they discover that all it wants to do is play!

The launch of Flotsam and Jetsam at Bideford library. Children made driftwood creatures, sticking googly eyes on to sticks and giving them wigs of dried seaweed. The results were fabulous.
